I suggest checking some of these artist out by using (great streaming website) or youtube. CBC radio two and three commonly play interesting off the beaten track material. The CPO is having a great rush hour concert series right now, things are shortened a bit and explained. I'm currently listening to the following...

Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Copland (fanfare for the common man), Kernis, and John Adams. I really enjoyed the CPO Red Violin series, some wonderful contemporary American material. I sometimes suggest my student check out Schoenberg if you want to see what Avant-garde classical music sounds like.

Jessie Cook and Paco Pena
